Ok here is the situation.

I just moved into an upstairs apartment. The guy downstairs has wireless internet and my computer picks it up with 5 bars. However, it is locked so I use another one that I have very low signal on. Well the other day I asked the guy downstairs for his password and he told me. So I use it and it says I am connected and I am able to use the internet. Then I stop being able to have web pages up. I disconnect and reconnect and I can still get it to say I am connected and have excellent signal, but it still won't bring up any webpages. Does anyone have any idea why this is the way it is?

not your machine... it is his internet. what you are connecting to is the router... that is only half of it... the other half is the modem getting the internet to the router and it being processed in way that the router can re-distribute it.

think of it this way his router could be plugged in to the wall but not to the modem and you could connect with an excellent signal... you would not be receiving the internet tho.

if the guy uses his internet much he should catch this and fix it but unless you break in to his apartment and reset his router and modem you are at his mercy.

Could someone please explain what may be going on here. . . .

I am connecting to the downstairs internet just fine connectivity wise it says excellent. However, it doesn't seem to be accessing the internet. Earlier today I went downstairs and reset the modem and the router. I can't be doing that everytime I use the internet, does anyone know why I would be still allowed to be connected but not getting access through the internet?

Cause like uno said..you can be connected to the router but not the internet..I have a router in my bedroom so that my two tenants can have internet access..every other day or two I have to unplug the router or the modem to reset although sometimes it works for a week or two without fail..I am on all day so I catch it right away but odds are your feeder does not catch it or unplugs something..YOU WILL ALWAYS BE AT HIS MERCY and you will lose internet at crucial moments as fate will have it..My advice-If you can afford it get your own hook up buddy, otherwise just pray before you go on line-D

Yeah I just made that decision also. I don't understand why it's going on though. It was just hours later after that I had to reset it. Now I am repairing my connection all the time and it is working for 10-15 before I have to repair it. So I am wondering if it's something wrong with my computer. . . but I don't even know where to start. This is very frustrating .
